Douglas S. King, a financial advisor who has 34 years of experience in the financial industry and currently holds several leadership positions with firms, has been elected to chair the board of directors of Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in 2021.

He will serve as chair-elect next year, the board announced Wednesday.

King is president and CEO of Prosperity Capital Advisors and C2P Advisory Group, and is president of Valor Capital Management, all financial services firms in Westlake, Ohio. He also is a financial advisor with his own financial planning firm, Oakwood Capital Advisors, Fort Myers, Fla.

"This is an exciting time to be in the financial planning profession,” King said in a statement. "With more demand for financial planning, there also comes the need to increase the number and diversity of the profession so that Americans have access to CFP professionals providing fiduciary financial advice."

Prior to his current role, King was president and CEO of Cetera Advisor Networks and executive and financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.

King earned a bachelor's degrees in finance and management from Virginia Tech and an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management. He has been a CFP professional since 1989.
