Cernan A. Bernardo of Chula Vista, Calif., can no longer use the designation because he filed for bankruptcy and improperly used the CFP certification mark after allowing his certification to expire, the board said.

The board permanently revoked the right of Charla C. Kabana of Huntington Beach, Calif., from using the CFP  mark after she allegedly was fired from her firm in 2016 for practices regarding variable annuity commissions and chargebacks.

Other disciplinary action included temporary suspensions of the right to use the designation for various lengths of time for alleged infractions, including:

Diana A. Behre of Hackettstown, N.J., for two years.

Dean Stephens of Seaford, N.Y., for six months.

Lloyd T. Layton of Dumfries, Va., for six months.

Stewart A. Gooding of Tucson, Ariz., for six months.

Jeffrey S. Gurman of Los Angeles for 30 days.

Letters of admonition were issued to Kim L. McDougall of Atlanta; Julia Sohn of Henderson, Nev.; Josette L. Greechan of Armonk, N.Y., and Lawrence E. Murphy  of Hilton Head, S.C.
