Epstein, 66, was arrested in July and charged with sex trafficking in minors and conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty, sought release on bail and failed when the court ruled that his wealth and global assets made him a flight risk and a threat to the community. Returned to a federal lockup in Manhattan, he was found one day unconscious with marks on his neck, placed on suicide watch and later taken off that protocol. On Aug. 10 he was found dead in his cell.
Berman concluded the hearing on Tuesday without taking action on the motion to dismiss the Epstein indictment. Victims’ lawyers have asked him to keep the record of the case open so that other Epstein accusers could continue to come forward.
